I have added siding and shingles to the houses, ducks in a pond and circling the mountains, and even a buck to the front of one house. Awfully hard to see in a photo though.</a></div>

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1ajahmZJ-kA/UcR9rfv5SGI/AAAAAAAAAoU/lNFzLRzLAao/s1600/DSC_0418.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">Thought I had better add a few pictures of the cabin again. It is all but complete. I think I will let the little girls get involved with the rest of the completion. We still need to hang curtains and pictures, add dishes, etc. <img border="0" height="211" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1ajahmZJ-kA/UcR9rfv5SGI/AAAAAAAAAoU/lNFzLRzLAao/s320/DSC_0418.JPG" width="320" />So, this is the front porch with a couple of porch chairs. I want real peeled posts, but the ones we got were too large and unpeeled., so that is in the future.</a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DDsg5k1obCc/UcR9rooC01I/AAAAAAAAAoY/9COJr5CyMVA/s1600/DSC_0419.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DDsg5k1obCc/UcR9rooC01I/AAAAAAAAAoY/9COJr5CyMVA/s320/DSC_0419.JPG" width="320" />This is a view of the kitchen set from the front door. You can see the little lounge chair in the back. It is hot pink while all of the kitchen stuff is pale pink, but it seemed better than to have it be black vinyl.</a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oYHzxmFD0bw/UcR9r7y3XAI/AAAAAAAAAok/vLYO73vanCY/s1600/DSC_0420.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oYHzxmFD0bw/UcR9r7y3XAI/AAAAAAAAAok/vLYO73vanCY/s320/DSC_0420.JPG" width="320" />Not the best shot, but a picture of the table and two of the four chairs Sweet C refinished for use here. We had had the chairs since our own kids were little, but they were mostly broken. He made new seats of wood and they are stained to match the leaves in the wainscoting.</a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YBFAkgX6XJU/UcR9sy8RA4I/AAAAAAAAAos/E7X6YWlsLys/s1600/DSC_0421.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YBFAkgX6XJU/UcR9sy8RA4I/AAAAAAAAAos/E7X6YWlsLys/s320/DSC_0421.JPG" width="320" />This is a shot of the kitchen set from the other side. As you can see, there is a sink and dishwasher, stove with oven, refrigerator and microwave oven. Still need flowers in a vase, the dishes, pots, pans etc put out, And the food of course. Oh, if you know where I can get silverware only for a kids kitchen please let me know. I found some at K-Mart but only with a set of dishes, and I already have a nice set of dishes from Ikea. I would also like some mixing bowls and a tea pot. (Have tea cups)</a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eMeRqNW6NXg/UcR9tC_ytsI/AAAAAAAAAow/Cee3eliztfc/s1600/DSC_0422.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eMeRqNW6NXg/UcR9tC_ytsI/AAAAAAAAAow/Cee3eliztfc/s320/DSC_0422.JPG" width="320" />Now this is just a view of the back yard from one side to the other. It is just so green and pretty right now.</a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-F5hKP-BIvAY/UcR9t0acpKI/AAAAAAAAAo8/tyev9aMkdAY/s1600/DSC_0423.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-F5hKP-BIvAY/UcR9t0acpKI/AAAAAAAAAo8/tyev9aMkdAY/s320/DSC_0423.JPG" width="320" />This view is up the hill toward the deck. Also very green right now. Soon will be stressed from the heat so love it while you can I say.</a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sCCku9aS0-w/UcR9uY5zEtI/AAAAAAAAApM/eb0HzZ--Hyw/s1600/DSC_0424.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sCCku9aS0-w/UcR9uY5zEtI/AAAAAAAAApM/eb0HzZ--Hyw/s320/DSC_0424.JPG" width="320" />This is one of the benches Sweet C made from scrap lumber left over from the deck and playhouse.</a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1bsA7CUwCZ8/UcR9uPDfQZI/AAAAAAAAApA/XEL47Rr9RZU/s1600/DSC_0426.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1bsA7CUwCZ8/UcR9uPDfQZI/AAAAAAAAApA/XEL47Rr9RZU/s320/DSC_0426.JPG" width="320" />This is another. They are similar, but not exactly matching, very sturdy and good looking, very earth friendly.</a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-N9l-7g2z7Tc/UcR9vbk4A7I/AAAAAAAAApU/hna6fUKmg1I/s1600/DSC_0427.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-N9l-7g2z7Tc/UcR9vbk4A7I/AAAAAAAAApU/hna6fUKmg1I/s320/DSC_0427.JPG" width="320" />The next two are for Kip. Since he hasn't seen the deck we built two years ago I thought he should see it. The rest of you will remember it. The lower portion, an octagon, I would like to plant trees to the southeast for shade and beauty. If you remember, that is where the globe willow used to be. The one that split three ways right after I came home from Vegas. It had been damaged by lightning but lasted 7-8 more years? I don't remember the exact amount of time. </a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Eoly8WZFXhM/UcR9vnA8w8I/AAAAAAAAApY/0RG3ekdGiKA/s1600/DSC_0428.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Eoly8WZFXhM/UcR9vnA8w8I/AAAAAAAAApY/0RG3ekdGiKA/s320/DSC_0428.JPG" width="320" />Last picture I promise. This is the upper part of the deck from the lower part. It is funny how hard it is to see things with the bright sunshine and shadow. I could see the benches and the deck just fine, but the photos have too much contrast. (expect more when the girls arrive)</a></div>

I've wanted to look down on houses, roads, etc from a bit closer than 30,000 feet. It was as lovely as I thought it would be.<br />

(Now, not to sound like a total spoiled brat but I also rode in a helicopter. That was also part of the Pony Express days, and really, how often do you get the chance to do two things on your bucket list in one day? For that matter, how often do you find such an opportunity?) The box hanging off the back holds the battery, which runs the lights. By the way, they work wonderfully. And the five windows make it very light in the daytime.</a></div>

I need to varathane it before sweet C hangs it. You can almost see that the wall is half beadboard and half flat. There will be a lovely little wood divider between. Not quite finished yet.</a></div>

Blackraspberries above, and below is a shot of the peas, chard, spinach and beets. Would you believe that the spinach got sunburned when we had a 90 degree day a few days ago. We ofter skip over spring. </a></div>

However, I have quilting work too so will probably wait till evening. It will be cooler then too.</a></div>

He has been working on this Wednesdays, Friday mornings and an hour every once in awhile as he can. I simply didn't take pictures.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-r5NZsjZofqE/UYQVTcHQGkI/AAAAAAAAAls/jR8z2Y3kfv8/s1600/DSCN1209.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-r5NZsjZofqE/UYQVTcHQGkI/AAAAAAAAAls/jR8z2Y3kfv8/s320/DSCN1209.JPG" width="320" />Sweet C put in the windows this morning</a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pMnzC3ppeB0/UYQVcwAKsQI/AAAAAAAAAl4/5e30QHBuhbE/s1600/DSCN1210.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pMnzC3ppeB0/UYQVcwAKsQI/AAAAAAAAAl4/5e30QHBuhbE/s320/DSCN1210.JPG" width="320" />And finished the roof caps</a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4EnAhRLsvtc/UYQVmo_dg9I/AAAAAAAAAmA/hgc04dgxX5A/s1600/DSCN1211.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4EnAhRLsvtc/UYQVmo_dg9I/AAAAAAAAAmA/hgc04dgxX5A/s320/DSCN1211.JPG" width="320" />I painted the soffits and facia. Next we will put on the log siding. </a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DuOhOXjZ62g/UYQVv0XnvaI/AAAAAAAAAmI/BzR3KDyIa1o/s1600/DSCN1212.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DuOhOXjZ62g/UYQVv0XnvaI/AAAAAAAAAmI/BzR3KDyIa1o/s320/DSCN1212.JPG" width="320" />Then we will begin to finish the inside. We hope to add a bit of a kitchen, maybe a nice chair and of course we will need to build stairs.</a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3AE3JU4aSfI/UYQV5Rjzo6I/AAAAAAAAAmQ/NFtrd04Naw4/s1600/DSCN1213.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3AE3JU4aSfI/UYQV5Rjzo6I/AAAAAAAAAmQ/NFtrd04Naw4/s320/DSCN1213.JPG" width="320" />And this will be the loft where girls (and boys) can sleep out if they want. I will try to remember to post when finished.</a></div>

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_w8NFlpSUPE/UICX-5eUbOI/AAAAAAAAAkk/akRVdFBYyD4/s1600/DSCN1129.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">We had a really good year in the garden in spite of the lack of water. I believe we got 19 cases of raspberries, 3 or 4 of black raspberries, tons of beans, cabbage, squash, fruit etc.</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-etF6OeCIy08/UICX_pFbtbI/AAAAAAAAAks/xZPcyQK0lsE/s1600/DSCN1130.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">These are the butternut squash and the pumpkins I just picked.<img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-etF6OeCIy08/UICX_pFbtbI/AAAAAAAAAks/xZPcyQK0lsE/s320/DSCN1130.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_w8NFlpSUPE/UICX-5eUbOI/AAAAAAAAAkk/akRVdFBYyD4/s1600/DSCN1129.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">These are pumpkins I have not yet picked. In fact, I didn't plant these, they came as volunteers. Both these and the ones I planted are those small sugar baby pumpkins. Great for eating.</a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Here is a slightly better picture of the whole cloth quilt. At least the color is better. By the way, for those of you in Utah, this quilt will be hanging in the Springville Art Museum Quilt Show through August.Lynnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08586374170382457483noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2171607311352523085.post-83293626412072268382012-06-19T13:00:00.001-07:002012-06-19T13:00:46.772-07:00Whole Cloth<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This picture shows part of the old roof- what is left on the porch below and some of the new roof above. It also shows one of the problem areas that took so much time. We had to clean away around the roof windows, of which we have 5, and rework them with new flashing and old. They look much better now, and should be less likely to leak.<img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FeqFrJLDITE/T5lGEhutP-I/AAAAAAAAAi4/QALM_JXxb9g/s320/DSCN0342.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

The new roof is a little more brown and looks a bit like shake. It is made of architectural grade shingles though. <img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Wrj-E2ThP2g/T5lGJXoYBzI/AAAAAAAAAjA/ghtfjkU6N0o/s320/DSCN0343.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

It is beautiful out there.<br />
On the other hand, we are currently re-roofing our house. Everyday (except Sunday) since last Wednesday I have spent the majority of my time up on the roof. My feet hurt, my hands get numb and I have a backache. It is so obvious that I am not in my thirties like I was when we built the house. Yes, sweet C and I built this house ourselves. That was 25 years ago, so much renovation is needed. We have been doing things over the last 3 years, but I think the roof is the biggest project. Building the deck last year took some time, but didn't cause the aches and pains.<br />
I can hardly wait to be done with this one. I have quilts to quilt, vegetables to put in, and Grand-babies coming.Lynnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08586374170382457483noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2171607311352523085.post-66574879961701391362012-04-22T18:32:00.000-07:002012-04-22T18:34:18.532-07:00What happened to pretty?At church today I was noticing the young women and the clothes they were wearing. It made me sad. Only two of the girls were wearing pretty clothing that fit. The others all had trendy, messy, wrinkled outfits that seem to be the latest "fashion". Most were wearing "t-shirts" of one sort or another. Years ago that was certainly not considered church wear. We wore our best as a sign of respect to God. Now even adults wear "t-shirts". I have often thought that "conspiring men in the latter days" included fashion designers whose only goal in life was to take our money, not to clothe us in modest and pretty ways. Our leaders admonish us to be in the world but not of the world. I take that to mean that if we need to make our own clothing to be modest then that is what we should do. Years ago I made most of my clothing. There was a time when I wanted to be a fashion designer. Funny, huh? I do other things with my time now. Maybe I need to rethink that thought?Lynnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08586374170382457483noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2171607311352523085.post-82828563069874999152012-04-16T08:28:00.002-07:002012-04-16T08:35:45.818-07:00Garden complete<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sC6Wwi0L89I/T4w7Dk52HKI/AAAAAAAAAiw/dCRkfiFMy-w/s1600/DSC_0307.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 212px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sC6Wwi0L89I/T4w7Dk52HKI/AAAAAAAAAiw/dCRkfiFMy-w/s320/DSC_0307.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5732021358367743138" border="0" /></a>So, my "Midnight in the Garden" quilt is complete. I wish you could see it better because it really is cute.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-itfCVM3B9OU/T0zykzNp1vI/AAAAAAAAAfQ/fuxaK5Pge1U/s1600/DSC_0256.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 212px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-itfCVM3B9OU/T0zykzNp1vI/AAAAAAAAAfQ/fuxaK5Pge1U/s320/DSC_0256.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5714208741263005426" border="0" />This is the Quilts of Valor Quilt I did for the Utah Valley Quilt Guild.</a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-d8XCheDZ6O0/T0zykvsEEaI/AAAAAAAAAfE/UUucM7ghdwo/s1600/DSC_0257.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 212px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-d8XCheDZ6O0/T0zykvsEEaI/AAAAAAAAAfE/UUucM7ghdwo/s320/DSC_0257.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5714208740316811682" border="0" />Here is a close up of the quilting. You still can't tell really what it says. It's called X's and O's. The ladies in my bee did the blocks and one of them - the one who headed up the whole thing, set them. The stopborder is a brown and cream pocka dot and the border has tiny little squares of pink and brown and cream. I didn't know enough to do something this complicated and made many mistakes, had to resew too many seams and it still is a bit distorted. I would like to enter it in the HMQS competition. Remember - I won an award there last year, and would like to do something wonderful this year. This quilt is supposed to have wide black borders with vines and flowers appliqued on it. However, the quilt pattern is called cactus flower, and I would prefer to applique on a cactus in bloom. I can't draw. Would any of you artistic relatives be willing to draw me a simple cactus in bloom that I could use as an applique? I still have to figure out what I want to quilt on it too. I'll keep you posted.Lynnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08586374170382457483noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2171607311352523085.post-32723652526867187642012-01-23T15:37:00.000-08:002012-01-23T15:46:49.522-08:00A Customers quilt<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_Ej1rSL1QHQ/Tx3v4gjdADI/AAAAAAAAAeQ/Umf9fC6o4tw/s1600/DSC_0234.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 212px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_Ej1rSL1QHQ/Tx3v4gjdADI/AAAAAAAAAeQ/Umf9fC6o4tw/s320/DSC_0234.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5700976457411264562" border="0" />I just finished my latest customer quilt. Unfortunately, after I had finished it I realized it is too small by 20 inches circumference to put in the competition I wanted to enter. Sigh. I could try again slightly larger if I could find some 60 inch fabric or wanted to seam the top, or I could color this one and enter it as an art quilt. (OK, maybe some of our boys can do more with computers - but he can do tons that they can't. So there! )<br /> Yesterday, with a little help from me - I am the carpenters helper - he built the lower deck, sheathed the lower deck, built and sheathed the stairs down, and we picked up more materials to sheath the upper landing and stairs. <br /> The day before I had picked up deck rail and fencing materials, so my next project will be digging two foot deep holes in this rocky dirt. Three foot deep where the gates attach! Wish me luck. Better yet, come help me dig. Sweet C, in the meantime, will figure out how it all goes together (he's the tinker toy guy) and be cutting and putting it together. We really are trying to get it all done before we leave for Canada (to help our daughter finish her basement - AND see the grand-babies!!!!)<br /> It is becoming quite exciting. Even the neighbors stop to see how it's coming along. Why is it that we so love seeing things being built? I am just as interested in what I see others building. Progress is fun.Lynnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08586374170382457483noreply@blogger.com0
